Local Government Cyber Health Framework

I developed a prototype framework for MHCLG to help Local Authorities assess and improve their cyber health by simplifying navigation and action against multiple existing cyber standards into a single, cohesive tool.

The challenge

Local Authorities faced complexity and frustration in assessing and improving their cyber health due to the need to navigate and apply multiple, often disparate, cyber health standards. A unified, clear, and actionable approach was needed to simplify this process.

My role

I led the design and development of the prototypes, using the GOV.UK Prototyping Kit. This involved collaborating with Subject Matter Experts to identify relevant standards and conducting research with cyber professionals at Local Authorities to understand their specific challenges and user needs.

Impact

The resulting prototype used data to map multiple standards, creating a clear pathway of actionable items and improvements for Local Authorities. This tested the hypothesis that a single tool could significantly simplify the process of cyber health assessment and action, making compliance and improvement more accessible and efficient.
