Better Information for Better Government

Cabinet Office Read in 1 minute

I led user research for a discovery phase project at the Cabinet Office focused on improving the use of government-commissioned research and information management.

The challenge

The Cabinet Office was seeking ways to improve information management and ensure better use of research commissioned across government departments. The main challenge was identifying the specific barriers and challenges faced by researchers and knowledge management staff in sharing information effectively.

My role

I led the user research for the discovery phase. This involved interviewing researchers and knowledge management staff across various government departments to understand their workflows, challenges, and barriers related to sharing and accessing information. I also contributed to producing and presenting the final discovery report.

Impact

The user research directly informed the discovery report, which included concrete recommendations. These recommendations were intended to support the development of a federated research sharing platform, providing a strategic direction for the Cabinet Office to achieve its goals of better information management and research utilisation.
